A touring company
since 1982, FIGURES OF SPEECH THEATRE has been enthusiastically received
by audiences from Caribou, Maine to Tokyo, Japan. Figures of Speech Theater
is featured on touring rosters of the Maine Arts Commission and the New
England Foundation for the Arts, which has allowed them to present hundreds
of performances, residencies and workshops in K-12 schools, libraries
and art centers, as well as on college and university campuses throughout
New England. Presenters of their work have included the Smithsonian Institute,
Festival Theater in Sofia, Bulgaria, Internationalen Puppentage in Austria,
the Hopkins Center at Dartmouth College, Baltimore¹s Theater Project and
EXPO ¹86 Vancouver. The company has toured Japan twice under the auspices
of Hitomi-za Theatre. In 1986 Figures of Speech Theatre was awarded the
coveted UNIMA Citation of Excellence, the highest award in North American
puppet theater, for its production of Anerca. In 1989 the company won
a second UNIMA Citation for Cupid and Psyche, while performing at the
National Puppetry Festival. The Nightingale is the company¹s sixth production.
