The Baroque Opera

(Click the images to see a larger version)

Within a perfect miniature of a classic opera stage, this charming 18th century folk opera unfolds. A story about some bungling masons whose newly built chimney crumbles and falls, it is a poetical, philosophical and deviously polemical commentary on life in the pre- and post- Soviet East Bloc. This production features classical marionettes, their puppet animals and tiny props, as well as an inspired score by contemporary Czech composer, Vitezslav Janda.
